United States, Psychology Zone - Most couples assume that having a child is a very tiring and strenuous. However, a study says, it becomes a parent and have children happier than couples who have not been blessed with a baby. The research was published in the journal Psychological Science conducted by three universities, namely the University of British Columbia, University of California and Stanford University.
Although it requires a great responsibility, to have children more benefits. The study says, parents will be happier when they are caring for their children compared to other activities. This finding appears to be more consistent in older men.
"A series of studies showed that the parent's are not 'miserable creature' as we think over the years," says psychologist from the University of British Columbia and a researcher of the study, Prof.. Elizabeth Dunn, Wednesday (23/5).
"If you attend a large dinner party, our findings suggest that parents who are in the same room would be happy or happier than guests who did not have children" he said.
In this study, the researchers wanted to know whether the parents happier than other parents who have not had children, whether they have moments in life that are better than couples who do not have children, and whether they have a greater positive feelings when caring for their children compared to other activities.
These findings refute what once used to believe a lot of people, that children are often associated with decreased well-being in a family .
The study identifies age and marital status as a factor in parental happiness.
"We found that if you are older age (and assumed to be more mature) and married (and assumed to have the support of adequate social and financial), you tend to live happier if you have a child compared to your peers who do not have it," says researcher other, Sonja Lyubomirsky of the University of California, Riverside.
The results of this study do not apply to those who are single parents or parents who are still very young. Pressure commonly associated with the condition of single parents do not remove their positive feelings when having children.
"We affirm that being a parent does not make everyone happy, but that role can be associated with happiness and greater meaning in life," said Lyubomirsky. (Sec / mba)
